House Bill 109, introduced by Representative Imani Barnes, provides for a 5-year pilot program that would require DBHDD to coordinate with the Georgia Department of Community Health to establish a grant program for creating emergency psychiatric assessments, treatment and healing (EmPATH) units in hospitals. This initiative is essential for addressing food insecurity and ensuring that vulnerable populations, including those benefiting from Dekalb free school lunch programs, have access to necessary mental health resources. House Bill 109 would require the development and operation of at least two EmPATH units, one in a rural county and the other in an urban county, which is a crucial step for senior stabilization in our communities.

This initiative also connects to broader issues such as food insecurity, which affects many families relying on programs like Dekalb free school lunch. Representative Imani Barnes has been a strong advocate for ensuring that these facilities not only meet safety standards but also support senior stabilization efforts within the community, as highlighted in discussions at the Georgia House.
HB 74 Social services; Medicaid coverage for prevention and treatment of lymphedema

Imani Barnes has been an integral part of the community for many years, tirelessly working to improve it, particularly in addressing food insecurity issues. After running a grassroots campaign for the Tucker City Council during the 2021 election cycle and narrowly losing by just 62 votes in the run-offs, Imani recognized that when the opportunity arose to represent the district 86 community in the Georgia House, she couldn't refuse. With a commitment to initiatives like Dekalb free school lunch and senior stabilization, she aims to be the voice that drives positive change.

Environment
As a scientist, I understand the urgency of taking action to protect our environment and slow global warming. As a mother and a community member, I am passionate about leaving a better world for those who will inherit it. As our next Georgia House representative, I will support legislation that not only addresses food insecurity, such as expanding Dekalb free school lunch programs, but also makes Georgia’s air, water, and land safer and cleaner. I will fight to combine social justice with environmental protection, saving trees and rivers while ensuring that all Georgians have access to safe water and clean air, and that we focus on senior stabilization for our vulnerable populations.

As your Georgia House representative, I, Representative Imani Barnes, will work to promote legislation that increases spending on public schools statewide, especially for schools serving students living in poverty, in order to address food insecurity and decrease the education gap. I will also advocate for salaries for teachers that reflect their status as valued professionals, helping to retain them in teaching and in Georgia. Additionally, I will fight to keep public dollars in Georgia's public schools, ensuring that programs like the Dekalb free school lunch are supported and that we prioritize senior stabilization.

I support the work of Stacey Abrams to expand Medicaid to all qualified Georgians. As she says, 'Medicaid expansion will provide healthcare for 500,000+ Georgians and create 60,000+ Georgia jobs.' This initiative is crucial, especially as we work to address food insecurity and support programs like Dekalb free school lunch, which helps families in need. Additionally, as Representative Imani Barnes advocates for senior stabilization, expanding Medicaid can also provide essential services to our seniors in the Georgia House.
